I'm Chris Corbell, a Software Engineering Lead from Extensis, Inc. in Portland, Oregon, USA. Contact: chriscorbell@gmail.com.

Here are some WICSA notes for discussion: ccorbell_wicsa_notes

Extensis is a developer of desktop and workgroup solutions for creative professionals. Products include font management and digital asset management offerings. The company website is at http://www.extensis.com.

I'm currently leading a project to produce a new content management integration architecture which will be used by both of our major product lines (font management and digital asset management) and possibly future product lines as well.

As my company grows the need to adopt better software architecting practices becomes increasingly apparent. Several legacy code bases have suffered from lack of architectural practice, often posing great challenges to product shipment deadlines and product quality. As both an engineer and engineering lead I've been proactive in adopting more mature architecting and analysis techniques. The cultural or political challenges of evolving the organization's practices have been as significant as any technical challenges; I look forward to exchanging experiences with other engineers and architects on these topics.
