Session:ADLs--Positions
From WICSA Conference Wiki
moderator: Eoin Woods
Abstract
Many Architectural Description Languages (ADLs) have been proposed to help architects describe their systems, but few (if any) of them have been successfully adopted on a large scale. In this working session we will hear four ideas on how ADLs can be integrated with other software engineering technologies and applied to complex problems. We will then widen the discussion to draw on the experiences and opinions of session attendees in order to see if we can agree whether specialist ADLs are a crucial part of our future or a research idea best relegated to the past!

- Eoin Woods. I'm the chair of the session and I'll be trying to guide the session to the point of answering the question as to whether ADLs have are likely to be a relevant part of the future of software practice or not. I actually come to the workshop fairly pessimistic as to the future role of ADLs. The languages produced so far don't seem to have been solving real problems and I don't see this changing in the near term. I wait to be convinced otherwise!

Pre-registration for working sessions on the wiki is now closed. If you have not done so already, please sign up for working sessions at the conference registration table on Monday or Tuesday morning. We want to keep these sessions small to foster discussion. Seating is limited in some rooms. Because of this there may be a limit on the number who can participate - if that is the case then the first to sign up will be given preference. Once you have signed up at the registration table and ensured you have a spot, you can return here and add yourself to the list and introduce yourself.
