This page presents the result of the discussion that took place during WS 2. This result summrizes the list of research issues in the field of Software Architecture (SA) and Software Product Lines/Families (SPL), which still need in some way further investigation:

1. SA and SPL: 1.1 most SPL approaches are still mainly feature-driven, and the relationship with SA is unbiguous and poorly investigated. 1.2 Explicit representations and dependencies are needed.

2. Architectural patterns: 2.1 How to enforce and check conformance to patterns? This issue seems quite different in SPL than in developments of single products: e.g., multiple patterns co-exist in generic and product architectures.

3. Software complexity: 3.1 number of features and cross-dependencies. 3.2 hierarchies, feature sets/packages, functional oriented patterns provide important solutions

4. features and traceability: 4.1 the notion of feature is still ambiguous and used with different meanings even within the same SPL. 4.2. dependencies between variability and traceability needs richer semantic.

5. Qualities and variability: 5.1 relation between qualities and variation points is still unclear 5.2 variability of qualities not reflected in functionality requires investigation (e.g. usability)
