The formula of a working conference is a good one.

1) Meeting people is essential. Good networks require the availability of all participants. So at least the complete Program committee should be present during networking events (lunches, drinks, parties, etc. Novel people are attracted by the well known people who bear the conference. There must be opportunities to meet as well.

2) Exchanging ideas is more than presenting good papers and answer questions. The Working sessions are a good way of stimulating exchanges. So start already on the first day with working sessions. Have working sessions related to good papers, not only to work in progress.

3) Software Architecture is particularly an industrial issue. Real architectures are only made related to systems and products that have to go to market in time. There you find the ultimate challenges of balancing all trade offs between the many aspects and requirements. Universities must take that into account, and not dive into a tiny aspect that can be proven as such or that fits into an academic discipline. Stimulate more explicite the exchange of ideas and the different positions of universities and industries.
