This is followup discussion after the Stevens Lectures

Jason McC Smith asked, "You mentioned the 10-15 year span for maturation of a process that we've seen repeatedly in the field, and it was a reference to an *earlier* talk in the conference where a citation was provided. Do you recall that citation, or barring that, the talk you were referring to, so that I can ask them?"

It's actually a 15-20 year span. I was referring to a talk I had given previously, at ICSE 2001. The citation for the paper from that talk is

Mary Shaw. “The Coming-of-Age of Software Architecture Research”. Proc 23rd International Conference on Software Engineering, 2001, pp. 656-664a.

It's available on my web site. I said that Paul Clements and I have been looking at the evolution of software architecture. We're writing a paper updating the 2001 talk, and we expect it to appear in IEEE Software in the next few months.

The model of technology evolution we refer to is described in

Samuel Redwine and William Riddle. Software technology maturation. Proc 8th International Conference on Software Engineering, May 1985, pp. 189-200.
