  • Dan Paulish, Siemens Corporate Research, General Chair

Key ideas

(key ideas, how papers relate to each other and support the session theme)

  • key idea 1: the three papers investigate the topic of architecture evaluation in quite different ways: paper #1 (Len Bass, Robert Nord, William Wood, David Zubrow) provides results based on an empirical study on 18 SAs, paper #2 (Christian del Rosso, Alessandro Maccari) instead bases its results on an assessment case study, while paper #3 (Bastian Florentz) sems to be a more theoretical research paper.

  • key idea 2: the three papers cover different keywords: paper #1 is on risks, paper #2 is on evolvability, and paper #3 covers embedded systems, architectural decisions, dependencies of the quality attributes.

Discussion questions

  • question 1: how traceability issues relate to architecture evaluation (paper #1 points out "failure to find a relationship between ..." different goals and domains)
  • question 2: which are typical errors in SA modeling?
  • question 3: which aspects differenciate embedded systems SA evaluation from other systems?
  • question 4: how industrial software architectures evolve in practice?
